Local logistics
Building Access, Parking and Move Permits in Abu Dhabi
Moving logistics can differ between a standalone villa, a low-rise apartment block, a managed tower and a commercial building. Confirming access before moving day helps avoid a crew arriving before the service lift is available or finding that the vehicle cannot use the intended loading area.
Ask building management about requirements
Contact the building or community management team at both addresses and ask whether a move-in or move-out permit is needed, which documents must be submitted, how far in advance to apply, and whether there are restricted moving hours. Some properties require a service-elevator reservation, protective coverings, a refundable deposit or a designated loading bay. Requirements can change by property and management company, so this page should not be treated as a universal permit rule. Follow the instructions given for your specific building and keep the approval confirmation accessible on the day.
Check parking and vehicle access
Confirm where the truck can legally stop and how far items must be carried between the vehicle and the entrance. If the road, basement, ramp or loading bay has a height or size restriction, tell the moving team before the vehicle is assigned. Do not assume that a large vehicle can enter every residential compound or basement. If access is limited, discuss the alternatives and any effect on labour, loading time or vehicle arrangements in advance.
Allow enough time for lifts and shared spaces
In a tower, a service elevator may be shared with other residents, contractors or deliveries. Reserve the approved slot, confirm the allowed duration and ask whether the building requires floor or wall protection. Keep corridors and exit routes clear. At the destination, make sure someone can open the property and direct the crew to the correct rooms. For office moves, agree how staff, security and building management will coordinate access to work areas and loading zones.
Plan around heat and timing
Abu Dhabi's hot periods can make lifting, waiting outdoors and transporting heat-sensitive items more difficult. Keep drinking water available for your household and avoid leaving electronics, candles, cosmetics or other temperature-sensitive belongings in a hot vehicle. Ask the moving team about a practical start time and follow any building restrictions. The best schedule is the one that fits confirmed access, crew availability, route conditions and the actual size of the move rather than an assumed universal duration.
Keep the handover details in one place
Save the booking confirmation, contact number, building approval, parking instructions, key collection time and any agreed scope notes in one place. Share only the information the team needs to perform the move. If the move date, lift reservation or destination access changes, notify the company as early as possible. This is especially important when move-out and move-in windows are tight or when two properties have different management rules.
